AUCKLAND NOTES.
fFEOH OTTB CORBBSPONDBNT.]
The New Zealand Cup weights have been the main topic of conversation this week, and there is a general opinion that the handicap is not a bad one. Probably Chain Shot Is the worst treated animal in the race, and Cuirassier has not been forgotten. If Jet d'Bau is the horse I hear he is, he should be hard to beat with such lenient impost as 7st 31b, and there are few in Auckland who thought he wonld get off so lightly. Hilda Is nicely handicapped, and so is Lady Norah. My opinion though, is that the winner will .come from the three-year-old division. The Kohiinarama tracks hare been in a bad state, during the past three weeks through, rain, and with J, Kean being laid up in tbwti his team .of Horses have only being doing walking exercise. The trainers at are now working their charges in the middle of the course ri , ■- , George Hope has taken; Quadrant up. Hβ has thickened out during his spell. Lady Norah is doing steady work, and so is Cissy, but Hilda is still being spelled. George Wright has Mary the Nordenfeldt—Frailty filly very forward, and she shapes well. Another youngster that is doing well is a small chestnut filly by King Cole out of Melpdy ; she Is in Skirting's stable. . < major George's horses were on the course yesterday, Monday, for the first time,in view, of next season, and were also down again to-day; they comprised Fesole, Olive and three of his cwo-year-olda Reprisal, Vendetta and Coal Scuttle. Fesole has grown into a fine mare, and Olive looks lively and well. Texum and W. E. Gladstone are in work again, and Harry Harrison is working Antelope and a yearling, by St. Leger— Atlanta. ,„ ' Messrs Percival, Kirkwood, Morris and Marks have been entrusted with the task of drawing up the programme of the Auckland Racing Club for next eeason.and the same gentlemen have also been appointed to act in revising the racing rules, with the assistance of Mr R. E. Whitaker, the club's solicitor. ' The question of appointing a delegate to act on behalf of the Auckland Racing Club at the meeting of racing delegates in Wellington, was discussed by the A.R.C. I committee; no resolution was come to on ffce subject, but it ia probable the Hon. B. Mitchelson will represent the club's interest. George Wright's team now occupies the stable formftriy leased by J. Chaafe. ; Mr Bucjfland is getting a number of serviceable horses to take over to Sydney or Hisp4te«l r . ' ■ Among will be the wel known jumper Quilp. -..Catesbx.Wjtojthe private saleliat. His owner wanfsiSQ for him. Sydney papers to hand to-day of last ThuricArfsT&te state that Carbine is most fancied for the Melbourne Cnp at 100 to 5 and Maxim, Marvel, Tradition, and Singapore fiud favour at 100 to 8. On the passage over. Artist, Kangaroo and Shillelagh bad a very rough time and were considerably knocked about.
