WEST CHRISTCHURCH.

Tbe monthly meeting was held on Wed* nesday evening, 10th lust. Present Mr D. Reese (Chairman), Messrs W. Pirie, J. Munnings, J. Wendelken, A. Alfreyand A. R. Kirk. Mr Winny sent an apology. The Visiting Committee reported naving met the Clerk of Works to the Board of Education, and pointed out the alterations to the porch accommodation considered necessary, for which the Board had since stated tenders were being called, and also the requisite improvement In the ventilation of the infants' room, which he ..promised to draw their attention to, but the Board decided want of funds prevented any action being taken for the firesent. Screenings had been obtained or filling up hollows at both the main and side schools, and a little more was still required, which the Visiting Committee were authorised to obtain. The headmaster reported the average attendances for the quarter ending June 30th were— At the main school 1210, and at tbe aide school 211: total 1421. He applied, on behalf of the headmistress for a small sum for the purchase of needlework requisites for use in the schools, which was agreed to. A list of reading books, on the lines of that sanctioned by the Board of Education was submitted, which the Committee approved of. A list of scholars irregular In attendance was forwarded, and the Committee decided to send notices to the parents and guardians of the children. The Visiting Committees who had acted for the past three months were reappointed. It was decided to get up an entertainment in aid of the prize fond in about five or six weeks' time. Accounts amounting to £25 3s 8d were passed for payment. The Board notified the paynUignt of £74 Os 2d into the Bank for Incidentals, and the balance, after payment of accounts, in favor of the Committee was £75 3s lid.
