Sir Francis Drake—Ther mine manager reports:—"Since my. last the level has been driven north 7ft, the total distance driven being 24ft, which leaves 51ft to be driven to the boundary. I stoped out on the level north sft* in length and rose 9ft above the stopes. All the leaders have cut out and made into a solid reef from 4ft 6in in width. The size of the reef in the level is about 2ft. The number ef tons of quartz in the receiving paddock is 55." Jubilee—This ground is situate north, and adjoining the Globe Company's ground, and owing to the northerly trend of the reef in the latter Company's iniae shares in this Company are being aarain enquired for, the price offering being JBll. The Company will be shortly registered. National —This ground is situate at the Big River, and Mr Nottuxau, who is^ engaged prospecting the lease, reports finding the traces of the reef with a good wall and a few inches of golden stone. j Lone Star—Mi- Watkius, C.E., the Com- ! pany's engineer, visited the mine during | the week to superintend the test trial of the tram, and finding that everything workedjmost satisfactorily, took the work over on behalf of the Company. Some twenty odd tone were sent down without a pound weight being lost. The work does every credit to the contractors, Kruzenga and Co., and the design by Mr Watkins gives every satisfaction to the Company. The date of the crushing has not yet been fixed, but the commence ment will not be long delayed. Venus Extended —The mine manager reports: —"During the month the main level has benn extended 30ft, and is now in better looking country. Quartz leaders are plentiful from the face. There are twenty-three tons of quartz in the paddock, and I tii ink it is of very good quality." Nil Desperaudum—The mine manager reports :—" I have discontiued the south drive during the last fortnight, but it would be advisable to drive a few feet further. There is 6in of good stone iv the face at present.. I have risen 26f& and stoped out stone for 19ft in length. The reef is about the same size and quality. We have forty-two tons of stone in the paddock." United Alpine (Lyell) — The mine manager reports : —" During the week the eastern cross has been extended a distance of 27ft, making the total length now in 83ft. The last 12ft has been through soft black slate, intermixed with leaders and bunches of quartz; but last night hard ground again came into the face, and whether this is the hard hanging wall or not lam unable to tell before a few feet is driven into it. The contractors for the chamber and winze have got ail the heavy timber required for the chamber, and are now ready to make a start inside.' Just-in-Time —At the present time six are engaged on the low level crosscutting, four men are driving west and two are going east. Inkerman —The mine manager reports — " During the week the south drive on the bottom level has been extended sft, making the total distance driven from the shaft 100 ft. The north drive has been extended 7£ft for the week, total distance from the shaft being 101 ft, making the total length proved 207 ft. The stone is small in the north end, but has every appearance of making larger in tiie south drive. The stone is 2t't wide, and shows gold freely. In the stopes 51ft in length has been done for the week north aud south above the bottom level, each stope showing stonef rom ' lft 3in to 2ft 4in wide, and each face showing payable gold. Thirteen feet of stoping has been done on the new reef on stene varying from 2£ffc to 3£ft wide, carrying good gold. I am glad to state that the more the mine is being opened up the more she improves in appearance.and value. We cleaned up at the battery today, with the following results : —5860z of amalgam from 43 tons of stone, making a total return for the four weeks of 9550z of amalgam from 187 tons of quartz." Scotia—The mine manager reports that since taking charge of the mine in April last the main level has been extended, being now 135 ft to the north of the winze. For some distance it carried a fair Bizb reef, showing very good goid. A small pinch then came in, but it has had stone in the level until the last Oft. There is no stone in the face at the present tinv.t, but every appearance of its making again, as there are only 30ft to drive on the level to get right ■ under No. 2 winze. No. 1 level, has also been extended south 10ft, the reef be ng 15in in width, and carrying fair gold. No. 1 stope has been carried over the maiu level north of the winze for b'Oi't, with a fair sized reef carrying good gold. Eighty tons of stone has been sent to the paddock, and fifty toii3 more are lying at the mouth of the tunnel. All the other stone taken out is also lying on the top of the winze. The contractors expect to have the tramway completed soon, when everything will be ready for crushing. The haif-yeariy meeting of shareholders was held on Friday afternoon, when there was unusual interest shown in the election of the new directory, the Colonial Bank making a strong effort to secure the passing of a resolution giving them the Company's accouut. No itss tnan 22,000 shares out of the 24,000 in the Company were represented personally or by proxy. The Bank of Hiew Zealand party, however, managed to carry the day, but it was a very narrow squeak. The reports and balance-sheet were read and adopted, and ordered to be printed. The following Directors were elected:—ilessrs B. A. Waylen, W. Belby, A. North, G. B. Shepherd, and J. C. Craig. Spe imen Hill.—The half-yearly meeting of shareholders was held yesterday, when the following Directors were elected : —Mes3isM. Fitzgerald, J. Osborne. A. Ashman, F. Murphy, and J. G. Heslop, The mine is still idle, but the Directors will early proceed to consider the advisability of beg nning work again. Wealth of Nations—An extraordinary meeting was held during the week, when it was decided to re-forai the Company, the property to be taken over at a valuation of J2850, this presumably being the amount of liabilities of the old Company.
