[per press association.] Received June 29th. 1.30 p.m. THE MINING DISASTER. Newcastle, June 29. The prospect of recovering the bodies of the imprisoned miners is remote. The mine is a wreck, and tire rescue party are working in great peril. 2JEW HEBRIDES. Melbourne, June 29. Negotiations are proceeding between the Government, the Presbyterians and the Union Company for an extension of the New Hebrides service. It is suggested a small steamer should be subsidised as a feeder from the islands, and Mr Gillies has requested the Union Company to submit a statement as to the amount of subsidy required. STATE BANK COMMISSION. Adelaide, June 29. The State Bank Commission has reported against the establishment of a Mint Bank. They suggest the Government should issue paper currency notes of values from 5s to £10. Received Jane 30th, 5.30 p.m. THE WAITEMATA COLLISION. Melbourne, June 29. The Nautical Court have found that the Waitemata was responsible for the recent collision, and the master has been fined £25. DESTRUCTIVE FIRE. Kerr's timber yards were destroyed by fire this evening. The damage is estimated at £20,000, and there is not a penny insurance. NEW SOUTH WALES REVENUE. Sydney, June 30. The revenue of the financial year just ended amounts to £8,674,700, being an increase of £1,067,000. The principal increases are in Customs £526,000, and railways £372,000. THE ALLEGED "TREASURE ISLAND." The owner of the schooner Colonist declares that the vessel sailed on a legitimate cruise, and asserts that Weaver's yarn of a treasure island in the Pacific is pure fabrication.
