POULTRY SHOWS.
A Committee Meeting of the Christcharch Poultry Society was held at the Shades, on Monday evening last. Present —Mr B. Evans, Vice-President, in the chair, Messrs Brooking, Cook, Pedlar, Ritchie, Robertson, J. Goodman, Ford, T. G. Strange, Hon. Treasurer and T. Turner, Secretary. After getting through the usual routine business the list of Judges who had accepted, was read over as follows .-—Game, Malay and Bantams, Mr E. D. Bees; Spanish, Leghorns, Hamburghs, Minorcas, &c, Mr J. Nancarrow; Cochins and Brahmas, Messrs E. Strange and J. E. Bashford; Plymouth Rocks, Dorkings and Houdans, Mr J. H. Wood; Langshans, Messrs H. D. Hall and T. C. Clarke; any other variety of poultry and selling class, the Judges; ducks, Messrs T. C. Robertson and R. T. Cooke; turkeys and geese, Messrs E. Strange and J. E. Bashford. Pigeons—Carriers and dragoons, Mr W. G. Walker; Antwerps, Mr Temple; tumblers and any other variety, Mr J. Short. Canaries and song birds. Mr G. B. Muschamp. Pets, birds, Mr R. Evans. Cats, Mr E. Strange. The special prizes were then gone over, and were as follows:—The Gould trophy, value £2 2s, for best Dorking cock in show; W. Condon, £2 2s for best English blue carrier cock, and £2 2s for best English blue carrier hen.; Edwards, Bennett and Co., £2 2s; a Friend, £1 12s 6d; another Friend, £1 12s 6d; Petersen and Co., cup; H. Berry and Co., £1 Iβ; Tonks and Norton, £1 Is; Mason, Struthers and Co., cup; W. B. Perceval, £2 2s; Plaisted and Co., £1 Is; Finnerty and Buddie, £1 Is; W. Recce, £1 Is; F. C. Tabart, £1 Is; Wheeler and Co., £1 Is; Coates and Co., £1 Is; Sandstein, £1 Is; Joseph Gould, £1 Is; Fletcher, Humphreys and Cα, £1 Is; Aciand, Barns and Co., £1 Is; F. Arenas, £1 Is; S. Manning and Co., £1 Is; A. E. G. Rhodes, £1 Is, and many more, amounting in all to nearly £60. These, and others expected, will be allotted to the different classes at the next meeting of Committee on July Ist, and duly advertised, as also the place where entries can be made. A deputation from the Sydenham Society re borrowing pens for their show was received, and it was unanimously resolved that they be allowed the quantity required by them free of cost, a step in the right direction, and one that ought to put the two Societies on a better footing than they have been for the last few years. The Art Union Committee reported tickets going off freely, and the meeting adjourned. A Committee meeting of the Sydenham Poultry Show was held on Monday in the Rotherfield HoteL Present—Messrs C. Deal (Vice-President, in the chair) Ambrose Johnstone, W. Good, J. Donaldson, A. Walker, J. Beattie, S. Clark, G. Beck, F. Dacre, L. Wilson, A. EL Adams, and C. Johnstone (Secretary). The fcecretary then reported the total number of entries received for the. forthcoming show as 645, being an increase of 122 on the show of 18S& The Act Union Committee reported having purchased the whole of Mr Jno. Lister's prize pigeons, which will be given as prizes in addition to the four valuable prizes already purchased for the art union, which will be drawn publicly the first night of the show. A large number of special prizes were reported, which it was decided would be allotted at the next meeting, and as the coming show promises to be the best as well as the largest yet held under the auspices of the Sydenham Society, it is hoped that the special prize list will be further augmented by the next meeting.
