AMURI COUNTY COUNCIL.
An adjonraed ordinary meeting of the above Council was held at tbe oflice of the Council, Waiau, on Tuesday, 18th June. 1889. Present—Messrs A. W. Rutherford (chairman), D. Rutherford, J. H. Davison, D. D. Macfarlane, and F. S. Northcote. Eight tenders were received for tbe renewal of the superstructure of the Hurunui Traffic bridge. After due consideration tbe Council resolved to submit four of them (Messrs Stocks, Daulby, Sutherland and Nelson, and J. W. Thomas') to Mr Walkden, City Surveyor, Christehurch, for his opinion and recommendation, with a request that he take into consideration the design of the bridge and the cost thereof, and to be informed that the Council prefers that Australian timber be used therein. Resolved—That Mr Joynt be asked it this Council could legally accept,,at gnce, a tender for the re-erection of the Hurunui bridge; that Mr Lance, M.H.R., be written to re the necessity of amending the law relating to gates across county roads; tbat the Property Tax Commissioner be requested to forward the valuation roll; that the Overseer be instructed to remove some—urge stones overhanging on the bluff fronting on the Rotherham road,—nd to take all necessary steps to prevent the water from coming on to the new bridge, at Upper Waiau ferry. The Council then adjourned till Tuesday, 2nd July next.
