BOARD OF GOVERNORS.
A meeting of the Board of, Governors was held at 3 p.m. yesterday. Present— Mr F. de o. Malet (in the chair), Bishop Harper, Hon. J. T. Peacock, Captain Garsia, Messrs Westenra, Boss, Neave, Spaekman. L. Harper, Fereday. The Chairman said, in accordance with tbe College regulations, he had signed the electoial roll of the students eligible to vote at the elections for any vacancies. He had also to report two vacancies in the Akaroa High School Board, caused by the resignation of Mr Watkins and the expiration of the term of office of Mr Piper. A letter was read from Mr J. D. Enys asking for six months'extension of leave of absence.
Hon. J. T. Peacock moved—" That the leave be extended as requested." Mr Neave seconded the motion, which was carried. The leave already granted to Mr W. Montgomery was extended by six months to enable the Registrar to write to Mr Montgomery and ascertain his wishes in the matter. The report of the College Committee was read as follows :—" The Committee recommends the Board that; the tenure of the 'Leaving Exhibition* granted by the College to tbe Boys' High School be for two years certain, but suggest that the Board should take into consideration the surrounding circumstances of each exhibition, with a view of its possible extension for a third year." Tbe report was adopted. The report of the School of Agriculture Committee was read as follows :—'* The Committee, having considered the report of the Committee sent down by the Board on May 15— t, viz., * The Committee recommends the Board to communicate with the Minister of Education with a view of suggesting that tbe recommendation of tbe Commissioners should be partially carried out by the nomination on the part of the Government to say one-half of the members of the School- of Agriculture Committee,' recommend that Inspectors be appointed to advi-e with the Board as to the practical management of the School ot Agriculture."
The report was adopted. The Board, after transacting some further routine business, then adjourned.
