MANCHESTER UNITY OF ODDFELLOWS.
m The annual meeting of the North Canterbury district, 1.0.0. F. M.U., was held in the Oddfellows' Chambers, Lichfield street, on Wednesday, the 13th inst. The district officers present were Bro. P. Bate, Prov. G.M. ; C. H. Winnv, Prov. D.G.M.; Charles Foster, Prov. C.S. The following lodges were represented, viz.:— City of Christchurch, Kaiapoi, Benevolent, Volunteer, Perseverance, Leeston, Addington, Phillipstown, Papanui, Coleridge and Riccarton. Fines were recorded against lodges not represented. Previous to proceeding with the business the Prov. G.M. spoke in feeling terms of the death of the late Bro. W. Deamer, M.D., who had been one of the medical officers to the City of Christchurch Lodge for the past twenty years, and as a token of respect the meeting made a short adjournment. On re-assembling, the Prov. G.M., in a very interesting address, reviewed the work in the district for the past year, which, on the whole, was shown to be highly satisfactory. The sick experience had been somewhat high, £759 2s 4d having been paid on that account, and £290 was expended in paying funeral claims. He was unable to lay before the meeting the correct financial position of the various lodges, owing to Beveral Secretaries having neglected to forward the required returns. The ordinary routine business having been finished the election of officers was proceeded with, and Prov. D.G.M. Bro. C. H. Winny was elected unopposed. After a keen contest in each case Bro. D. Kennealy was elected Prov. D.G.M.; Bros. P.P.G.M. Guntrip, P.G.s Clarke and Aylward, Book Examiners ; and Bro. P.P.G.M. Sandford, Junior Auditor. It was decided to hold the next half-yearly meeting at the Coleridge Lodge, Glentunnel. The Prov. G.M. and Deputy-elect were duly installed by the retiring Prov. G.M., Bros. P.P.G.M. Sandford and P.G. Chick acting as conductors. Bro. Winny heartily thanked the delegates for the confidence placed in him by electing him to the most honorable position in the district. The other officers also returned thanks in suitable terms, A Bum of £7 10s was voted to procure a testimonial to be presented to Bro. P.P.G.M. Bate, as a slight recognition of past services. The District Officers were empowered to hold purple lectures as often as they thought necessary. In the evening a P.G. s Lodge was held, and degrees conferred on brethren holding the necessary certificates.
