We hear that the Shaw, Savlll and Albion Company's s.s. lonic is having a new manganese propeller put in during her stay in London. '. Yesterday morning, at an early hour, the New Zealand Shipping Company's R.M.S. Tongariro arrived in port from London, via ports of call. At Auckland, her first port to this colony, she received a quantity of frozen meat and other produce, and afterwards went on to Napier, where another part of her homeward freight was taken in. She stays here until Saturday, and steams tor the Empire City on the afternoon of that day, finally leaving that port for London on the 21st instant. Her officers are the same as were in her last voyage, and her berthing list for the voyage Home is already pretty full. The Earl Granville was berthed yesterday morning at the Gladstone Pier breastwork; where she loads for London. The web weather yesterday afternoon interfered with the loading and discharging of ships at the wharves. The barque Salamanca was yesterday afternoon berthed at the No. 7 wharf. - The s.B. Jane Douglas arrived from Akaroa last night. . ... The German nautical authorities have determined, that in future, measurements of all vessels under the German flag for purposes of tonnage, &c, shall be made on the English system. /It is finally decided by American nautical men to call the respective masts of five masted schooners (the first of which has recently been built) as follows:—Foremast, mainmast, mizenmast, spankermast, jiggermast. ,• The 8.8. Arawa will leave Porfc Chalmers for Lyttelton at noon on Thursday, arriving at Lyttelton daylight Friday moraing. Passengers for Lyttelton are not being transhipped, but will come on in the steamer.
