THE CROPS.
Our.Waimate correspondent writes:— Harvesting is being rapidly pushed ahead on the Wathfiorunga Estate, and this year its reputation as an oat growing country willbe well maintained. Seven hundred acres of oats, partly Danish. Tartarian, and Canadian, are already in stook, mid will thresh out nearly 45 bushels per acre. A fair crop of 200 acres of Tuscan wheat is barely ready for the binders, five of which have been steadily at work for the last three weeks, and have been doing good work, although some of the sidelines are pretty steep. The Waitaorunga Estate goes in largely for turnips; there are 19U0 acres growing this Season, and are looking as well as could be expected in the dry weather we have experienced lately. A good shower of rain would be very beneficial to the grass and turnips, which at the present time present a parched and dry appearance.
