PRESENTATION AT LYTTELTON.

On Tuesday night, in the Albion Hotel, Lyttelton, there wasa very pleasant gathering of the employes of the Shaw, SaviUand Albion Company; for the purpose of wishIng MrG.rAdams, thfc maeter etevedore of the firm, adieu. A cold <»Ua«on was prepared" . By host m Hill, and the chair was taken by Mr A. Henderson, who was supported on his right by the guest of the evening. In opening the proceedings, MtHkndkbson referred to the reason of the meeting, and said that, as Mr Adams, who had decided to return Home, was leaving them this week, it was generally felt that there should be some indication of the estimation in which he was held by them during his three years' service on the shore staff of the employ, and he (Mr Henderson) had been deputed by the stevedores to hand to Mr Adams a gold locket, which bore the following inscription:—"To G. Adams, Esq., from the employees of the S.S. and Albion Company, Lyttelton, N.Z., February 26th, 1889." The locket came from men having hard labor to perform to earn their daily bread, and meu who had appreciative characters, and knew when they were well treated. .... .•. Mr Richard Arnold, on behalf 01 the office, endorsed the remarks passed by Mr Henderson, and said that as Mr Adams was going a long sea voyage, it was his pleasure, on behalf of the employes, to give him a handsome pipe, tobacco pouch, and silver match-box.

Mr Adams in reply, said he was overcome by the kindness he had received amongst them, arid he would long remember them on the other side of the globe. He had received nothing but civility from everyone. It meant a lot; more than he could express. After the health, of the guest had been drunk, a very pleasant social evening was spent, the party breaking up shortly after eleven o'clock.
