At the adjourned annual meeting of tW| Board Mr B. Acton was re-elected Chair man. The circular of the Oamaru Boari relating to the desirability of legislatloa to enable public corporations to coassLS" date their loans was recommended to the favorable attention of the local membm of the House of Representatives. A letter from the Marine Department said t&«£? proposal would be considered witea tfe amendment of the Harbor Act ia taken ia hand. The Board had requested tho Gi> vernment to amend tho Act so as to relieve the Harbor Board from liability for the consequence of any action jg ,the part of a Harbor lu>3tcr m is the case with pilots. It was decided that the Secretory should send a ciraite to thb other Boards requesting their m. operation. The railway returns of wh&tf. age for the five weeks ended February &4 was £708 lis lOd. This was the feirag amount yet received, one month onlyes. cepted. At the previous meeting &&> engineer was authorised to lay down te'3 screw moorings by contract. The Chairman said the Lint regarding the Lloyd's report should be in mind till the north wall ia fiaiahed. Xni Board went into Committee to considy the tug question, and resolutions wero carried, movea by Captain Sattir, and seconded by Mr Boss— w Tnss the Titan be repaired [oufiiciently ta obtain a certificate to do the work g! the port for a year, until the Board caa get a new tag out from England, and tktj the Board at ouce arrange for a oew t&3 for this port." Mr Gray scrongly bppoesd the motion. Mis Boas moved ana Sir Teschemaker seconded—" That the Seesstary communicate with the U.S.S. .Cota* pany and enquire on what conditions tMf would allow their Home Euglneer, Mr Darling, to select a steam tug for the, port, and that their Consulting Engineer m the colony be asked to report to the Boars on the most suitable tug necessary for tat* port." -
