The Canterbury Trotting Club may be congratulated upon having brought off the most successful meeting of this class of sport that has ever taken place in New Zealand on last Saturday afternoon. It would be absurd to deny that there were no faults about it, but the management bad reduced these to a minimum, and the lesser details will probably be soon righted. The attendance was not so good as it ought to have been. The trotting was fairly good, and there was an absence of the rowdyism which is usually an accompaniment of these meetings, which was refreshing. Financially, I hope that the Club were to the good, and as the ever-courteous Hobbs and Goodwin put £1358 through the " infallible," it may be that the Club and the firm both profited. Appended are results :— Maiden Trot (in saddle), of 20 soys. About two miles, or five times round and a distance 16. Mr A. Julian's b g Lamplighter, aged (Whitehead) 1 3. Mr J. Jimmy was driven to the front in tbe first round, and was attended by Goldseeker and Flora Temple in that order, the mare running into second place on the third round. In the fourth Energy ran past Flora Temple, and Goldseeker and the latter dropped out. Bockwood followed Energy and the two scratch horses were evidently coming fast.
