SENIOR CUP MATCHES.
TT.C.C.C. V L.P.C.C. FIFTEEN. This match was started on Saturday, at Hagley Park. The weather being fine and sunny, and the wicket being a* nrst class one, the U.C.C. captain was lucky, and won the toss. He sent the L.P.C.C. tp the field, where they remained the whole afternoon, the U.C.C.C. putting together the big score of 241, which, considering there were fifteen men in the field, was a very creditable performance. Studholme and Harman faced the bowling of Hassal and\ Forsyth. The runs came fast. Studholme doing most of the scoring, Harman acting on the defensive. At 37 Studholme was caught in the deep field, having made 30 by good hard hitting, especially on the leg side. Longden joined his captain, but soon returned a difficult one to the bowler, which was well taken. E. J. Cotterill joined Harman, and a good stand was made. At 85 Harman was bowled by Bates. His 26 runs were obtained by steady, defensive play, in fact his defence was the chief means of breaking the L.P.C.C. bowling. Mathias then came in, and runs coming fast the bowling was changed several times, until Ootterill put his leg in front of his wicket and paid the penalty. His 37 was obtained by good hard hitting. Goldingham, Tait, Rolleston, and C. Cotterill did very little to increase the score.. Wilkinson then joined Mathias, and the stand of the day took place, 64 runs being put on before Wilkinson was bowled by C. Ridley. He hit all the bowlers about", treating all alike. He made 31, included in which were two big hits for 5 each. Fairhurst, the last man, came in, and with the assistance of Mathias took the score to 241, when Mathias skied one and was well caught by Brook. His score of 79 was the best innings we have ever seen him play. His defence was fairly good, and his hitting hard and clean. During bis long innings he did not give a chance, his cutting was really a treat to see, and if he remains in his present form he should be considered in the selection of the team to olay against Otago next' Friday. Fairhurst carried out his bat for a useful 16, included in which was a big leg hit for 5. HaSsal and Digby divided bowling honors, the former taking four wickets for 63, and the latter three for 42. * tJtCC.C First Innings. R D. Harman, b Bates .. .. 26 W.
