CARBINES V. RIFLES.
The Lyttelton Naval Artillery fired a match against the Heathcote Rifles on the L/ttelton range on Saturday afternoon. Conditions—Seven men aside: seven shots at 200, 300, and 500 yards.- With the exception of Gunner Palmer's score at 200 yards, who succeeded in putting on 34 out of a possible 35, the shooting was not by any means good. However, this may be accounted for by the strong north-east wind which blew across the range the whole afternoon. After a pleasant afternoon's shooting the Navals were victorious by 51 points. The Heathcote Rifles returned home by the 7.20 train. The following are the scores:— LTITELTON XAVAI&. 200 300 500 yds. yds. yds. Tl. Gunner Palmer .. .. 34 21 17 11 Gunner H.
