NEW BRIGHTON ITEMS.

[PEOK OTJB COEEKSPONDKNT.]

This favorite resort for health and, plea sure seems to have taken a fresh start during the last two mouths. I suppose there are many factors at work that may claim their share of honor in bringing this about. One of these, of course, is the enterprising Directorate of the New Brighton Tram Company, who have secured the Corporation line from the Company to Christchurch, and who appear to be adopting a more liberal policy, and to be striving to please their patrons by giving greater facilities for transit along the Hue, having put on a late train every night from town at 10.10, and another frooi New Brighton at 8.30, both of which are a great boon; the former to business men and the latter to those who wish to enjoy "the balmy breeze of eve" by staying an extra couple of hours by the sea. There is just one thing more that would increase the popularity of , : the management and the comfort of the public, and that Is an extra car sometimes, as it is very unpleasant to be perched on the rails or crushed out of shape on the platform for want of room. I see more cars are being advertised tor, so. perhaps, this defect will be remedied. Then there'are our energetic storekeepers, Sec, one of which supplies the township with coals and firewood that are brought direct by "sailing craft" to the new wharf, and retailed at Christchurch prices. More power to him I say. Groceries, bread, meat, flsh, vegetables, and milk are delivered at our doore daily. We also have a resident carrier, who brings everything that i 3 needed from town every df y. We also have telephone communicaUott within certain hours of the day, which to a great convenience in any cases of urgency. The Board of Education are losing no time in providing us with the necesearv teaching staff for our school, w> tba'fc children need not suffer .any disadvantage through staying hero permanently. There fi not a house emptj now that I am aware of, so that alljJie advantages we have are evidently appreciated. There are some new houses being built now, and several being talked abpttfc. I hear, too, there is a project on foot tor running out a pier for some distance beyond low water mark, and thatplans are being prepared for the work. Wβ are well supplied now with religious services, which were evidently needed, as I hear both the Anglican and Wesleyan Churches are well filled morning and evening. There is also a Sunday School in connection with each cburcn. The fine weather tempted a great numbet of people to take advantage of a *"!»«> the seaside last night. There were five cars, well loaded, besides drags andt pnwt* vehicles. Altogether UjEZJS&LjfiZ popularity.
