It is reported the German-Australian steamers will cease to call at Antwerp for the future. MB CHAMBERLAIN. London, January 10. At the public reception tendered him by the people of BirminghamMr Chamberlain, responding to the. toast of " Parliament," said he would not accept a tide if offered one. A twofold Parliamentary reform was necessary in order to ensure a better despatch of business, namely, the relegation of much of the work to Grand Committees, and personal punishment of members guilty of disorderly conduct. COLONIAL GOVERNORS. Lord Kimberley, speaking at Wymondham, Norfolk, said the colonies were evidently anxious. to secure as Governors Peers of the Realm, and this wish, he thought, should be gratified. BECHUANALAND. In reply to a deputation on the subject, Lord Knutsford disclaimed any intention on the part of the Government of handing over Bechuanaland to the Cape Colony. AGRICULTURAL OUTLOOK. The Hon. Mr Stanhope, speaking at Sevenoaks, Kent, said the agricultural outlook was vastly improved ; 10 per cent, more land was under wheat than formerly. Reoe}red January 11th, 12.30 p.m. COUNTY COUNCILS. London, January 10. Sir John Lubbock has been nominated for a seat on the London County Council. Many of the notability are candidates for seats in Provincial Councils. ROYAL BETROTHAL. It is announced that the betrothal of the Czarewitch and Princess Alice Victoria of Hesse will take place at Easter. BISHOP OF LINCOLN. The trial of the Bishop of Lincoln on a charge of ritualism commences on February 12th. ATTEMPT ON THE AMEER'S LIFE. Cabot* January 9. While the Ameer was reviewing troops on Boxing Day, a Heratese •Sepoy attempted to assassinate him by discharging a gun at him. The shot TP»««>«d, however, and the Sepoy was at once seized and executed. FIGHTING IN HAYTL Post ait Prince, January 9. Severe fighting has again taken place here. The President's forces have been defeated by the revolutionist*.
