WANDERERS V MR WERBY'S TEAM (WELLINGTON).

[from our special correspondent.]

WELLINGTON, January 10. The Christchurch Wanderers arrived in Wellington from Nelson early on Wednesday. The weather looked very threatening, and when the hour to play arrived ram came on and continued the whole day, and prevented the match between the Wanderers and Mr Werry's team being commenced. On Thursday the weather had improved, but did not look very promising, and during the day we had several showers. The wicket on the Basin reserve was spoilt by rain, and was very lumpy, and this accounts for the small scores made. Mr Stevens did not play, and Mr Secretan captained the Wanderers. Winning the toss, he sent in Helmore and Marshall. When 12 went up Helmore was caught well by Browne in the deep field. Secretan came in, and these two made things look up, both batsmen playing very well on the difficult wicket. When 60 had been made Marshall was yorked out after playing a very good Innings of 32. Harman came in, and almost immediately Secretan was caught and bowled by Kirker for 15. He played a very nice innings, and showed that he has not lost his old form. Wilding got out immediately, and then Rolleston came in, and with Harinan made things lively for a time, Rolleston making two grand hits for 5 and 4, and Harman followed suit, getting a good one away tor 4 and a big leg hit for 5. When 86 was registered Rolleston was caught at the wickets, and the other batsmen only increased the score to 95. W. CotteriU and Brown went in first for Werry's team. The bowling of Wilding seemed to puzzle the local men, the first three wickets going down for 13. Drvden increased the score to 44, when he was run out after playing a gooH innings of 19. Kirker made 16. These were the only men who made double figures, and the innings closed for 69. Wilding got six wickets for 31. About four o'clock the Wanderers went in for their second innings. Harman and Marshall went in first. Hewitt was bowling very well, and four wickets were down for 6 runs. Mathias joined Harman, who was playing very steadily, and these two brought the score up to JJ7, when Mathias was well caught by Drydeu for 10. None of the other batsmen appeared to be at all at honae to the bowling, and the innings closed for 66. Harman carried out his bat right through for 30, made by very steady cricket. Wilding had to bat with one hand, as he sprained his wrist slightly, but will be able to play to-morrow. The Wanderers played one man shore. Rhodes was unable to bat, as he got a na-ty crack on the fingers. The match will be continued on Friday morning. The Wellington have to get 93 to win it. WANDERERS. First Inuiaga.
