SUMNER TOWN BOARD.
A special meeting of this Board waa held on Tuesday, the Bth inst., to confirm the resolution passed on 4th December adopting the clauses 2:2 to 51 of the Rating Act 1882, and its amendment. The ordinary meeting was then held. All the Commissioners were present except Commissioner Newton, for whose absence the Chairman apologised. A long discussion took place respecting the very unsatisfactory state of tramway matters. It waa resolved that a deputation consisting of Commissioners Kitsou aDd Graham should wait upon the Directors of the Tramway Company and endeavor to obtain a satisfactory settlement of all matters in depute, the principal of which are as follows:—!. The continuation of the line to Heberden road. 2. The unsatisfactory state of loop-line in Nayland street. 3. The want of ballast on the line In Nayiand street. 4. The trams stopping at Godso a instead of running to the terminus. A letter was received from Mr C. L. Wiggins oa the same subject; it was referred to the deputation. 4 £hs Clerk was instructed to write to Mess« Knight and Honeybone to call attention jtp the unsatisfactory manner in which they had performed their contract in Naylana ateeefc. The followlnecorreapondence was read—From Mr Deacon, asking the Board , * consent W «#e laid out on Rural Sections 2GI /and 262. ' From Mr Appleby, objecting, ac a jrate* payer, to the Board giving their consent to the streets referred to unless they were formed and metalled. Tte Board, fa view of sections 248 to 252 of the Municipal Corporations Aci, 18S6, declined to accede to Mr Deacon's request. Re Creek—Commissioner Mills reported that he could get £30 more in private subscriptions towards the straightening of the creek. The Works Committee were requested to see Mr S. L. Bell and try to effect an agreement re straightening the creek through his property. Re esplanade, it was resolved that the Works Committee be authorised to keep the esplanade, from Morten street to Cave Rock, free from sand, at a cost not exceeding £5 per annum. The Works Committee was requested to get an estimate of the cost of providing a room as an office on the Board c section. The Clerk was called upon to provide his guarantee. Commissioner Kitson was authorised to sign cheques in the absence of Commissioner A. C. Newton. The 'iVeasurer's statement showed receipts iil*ce last meeting £16195, Payments $* Sitt. cr balance in Bank £169 7elod. Accounts amounting to £S Sβ were, puwd inpayment, and the meeting then adjourned^
