[press association telegram.] Poet Chalmers,^ December SO. Arrived—The Ruapehu, R.M.S., Captain Mayosa. She brings 2000 tons of cargo, 830 for Dunedin, 302 bags of mails, 30 cases per parcels post. The Northern mails were transhipped to the steamer Ohau, which left at 3 p.m. for Lyttelton. There are 144 passengers. W. C. Scott, a second cabin passenger, died from phthisis on December Bth. Captain Mayoss was presented with a testimonial signed by all the passengers on Christmas Day. She left Plymouth at 2.43 p.m. on November 17th; arrived at Tenerifie at Ba.m. on the 22nd. Left again at i p.m. Experienced light trades with fine weather to Capetown, arriving there at 0.15 p.m. on December 7th. Left again at midnight, and on the following day encountered a heavy south-west gale, with high confused se&, causing the vessel to labor heavily. Two or three seas broke on board, which carried away the quarter-deck chairs and did other damage. The gale continued until the 12th, when it moderated. Had north and westerly winds, with snow and hail squalls, until the 25th. Arrived at Hobart at 5.10 a.ra. on the 26th, landed 133 passengers, and left again at 4.10 p.m. on the 27th ; passed the Snares at 10 a.m. on the 29th; arrived at the Heads at 1.50 a.m. on the 30th; crossed the bar at noon. The passage from Plymouth to the Heads was 41 days 28 hours 25 minutes; steaming time, 40 days 22 hours 23 minutes.
