ST. ALBANS.
The annual distribution of prizes to the successful scholars attending the St. Albans main and side schools took place yesterday afternoon at the main school. The first part of the afternoon was devoted to races for girls and boys of all ages and sizes for prizes of pocket-knive3 and various toys, for liberal assistance in the purchase of which the Committee are indented to several of the residents of the neighborhood and elsewhere. After a lengthy programme of races had been got through, the prizes were presented by the Chairman of the Committee, Mr Thos. Gordon, bis Worship the Mayor of St. Albans, Mr Salter, first addressing a few words to tbe assembled children. The following is the list of prize-winners :— MAIN SCHOOL. Elementary Science — Standard VI., Henry Dixon (Mr F. Barber's prize) 1, Henry Chapman 2 ; Standard V., Warren Amy'l, William Kinley 2; Standard IV., James Pearson 1, H. de 0. Martelli 2. Mapping—Standard VI., Henry Chapman 1; Standard V., William Jackman 1. William Brant 2; Standard IV., Bertha Seed 1, Louisa Brown 2; Standard 111., Ada Richardson 1, Lilian Carter 2. Regular Attendance —The following have never been absent during the year:— Standard VI., William Pike and Thomas Harris; Standard V., Alfred Cooper and Emily Spooner; Standard IV., Jeauie Brown; Standard 11., Florence Burleigh and Duncan Campbell; Standard L, Agnes Brown. The following have been absent less than six half-days during the year:— John Ewing, Frederick Leach, William Baker, Harry Rush, Martin Lock, Samuel Banks, Albert Dixey, and John Hegarty. Punctuality—Thomas Harris.
Needlework —Over five years, Lizzie Bradshaw; over six years, Mary Peters ; over seven years, Corrie Hawkins ; over eight years, Edith Blaylock ; over nine years, Emily Rountree; over ten years, Mabel Barker; over eleven years, Harriet Sheward; over twelve years, Jane Mayo ; over thirteen years, Jessie Brown; over fourteen years, Emily Dickenson. Special prize for the best needlework in the school, Emily Dickenson. Swimming — Girls — May Barker (Mr Sandsteiu's prize of a silver locket) 1, Amy Wathew 2, May Smith 3: diving, Amy Wathew 1; floating, Deborah Cooper 1. Boys—William Kiuley 1, Frederick Allen 2 ; under thirteen 'years, Charles Allen 1 ; long dive, H. de C. Martelli 1; divihg after threepenny bits, Thomas Harris. Best kept and most tastefully arranged gardens — Boys — Warren Amy, Ernest Kelly. Girls—Clara Hendriksen, Adelina Carter. Wooden spoon—Richard Newell, William Jackman, Frederick Allen, Henry Chapman.
