GIRLS' FRIENDLY SOCIETY.
The sixth annual meeting of the Girls* Friendly Society was held at the Recreation room of the Society on Tuesday, December 4th. The Most Rev. the Primate was in the chair. The attendance was small. The Primate read the report, and made some valuable remarks, especially on the necessity for more sympathy and co-operation amongst the associates. The quarterly meetings were intended to promote this, and it was a pity that they were not better attended. The election of officers and Council was then proceeded with. ' Mrs Matbias was elected VicePresident, Mrs Wigram Diocesan Secretary, Key. F. Knowles Treasurer. Two members of Council resigned. The others were re-elected — viz., Mrs Croasdaile Bowen, Mrs H. B. Cocks, Mrs East, Mrs Flivell, Mrs Fenwick, Miss Fenwick, MrsHawkes, Mrs Lane, Mrs G. Ross, Mrs Salter, Miss F. Torlesse, Mrs Webb, Mrs*Willock. The Rev. W. Harper then gave an exceedingly earnest address on the necessity of perseverance in the undoubted good work of the Society. The report for 1837-188S, showed that the work is extending steadily in the larger .centres of the diocese, and the balance sheet is in a satisfactory condition. We are requested to state that the annual festival of the Society will take place at C. C. Bowen's, Esq., Middleton, Riccarton, on Saturday, 15th, at three o'clock, when it is hoped that there will be a large attendance of members and associates.
