ELLESMERE REGATTA.

A Committee meeting of the above Regatta was held at Southbridge in "Wadlow's Hotel, on December the 7th, Mr T. B. Howson in the chair. A circular was received from the traffic manager consenting to run a late train on the day of the Regatta. Mr R. B. Willis wrote resigning office. The Secretary reported that he had seen Mr F. Overton, who had kindly consented not to open the lake until after the Regatta. He also reported having received a subscription of 20s from Dr. Gosset for a swimming race for boys; also promise of a similar amount from Messrs Howson, B. B. Willis, and J. R. Campbell. Mr Hibbard" moved, and Mr Cameron seconded—" That the regatta be held on Thursday, December 13th, 18S3,in place of Anniversary Day." Mr Waring moved, and Mr Wadlow seconded—" That place on New Year's Day." This amendment after a warm discussion was withdrawn in favor of the former resolution. On the recommendation of the Chairman, it was moved and carried that any person subscribing 10s or upwards receive a family ticket. On the motion of Mr Tod, the Secretary was instructed to arrange with the Leeston brass band re playing at the regatta. Mr Hibbard moved, and Mr Johnston seconded—" That the Secretary call for tenders for the refreshment booth.' The Secretary was instructed to write to the Chairman of the Southbridge Town Board asking for Thursday to be proclaimed a general holiday ; same conscession in Leeston; also to fully advertise the Begatta and sports in the papers. Mr Howson was appointed judge to act in conjunction with Mr McLachlan; Mr Little was appointed starter of athletic, and Dγ* Gosscc same of acqnatic, events; and Messrs J. Low, J. Stretz, W. Little, and Durant were appointed a handicapping committee. ssLv Forsyth moved— "That Mr Doyle be authorised to purchase 50s worth of toys, and that Messrs Tod, Durant, and fishermen be a subcommittee tfe arrange programme and other minor business. Carried.
