Z hear tlat matters are assuming a somewhat more tangible shape with regard to the Eailway Chief Commiadonership I believe Sir Dillon Bell haa cabled that an eligible gentleman would accept the post on certain specified terms, and that a good deal of correspondence is going on by cable with ajfriew to arriving at a favorable settlement if possible. It has been hinted to mc that it is not unlikely the matter may be arranged this week. There are 150,000 miles of railway in the United States; 300,000 miles of tails—in length enough to make twelve steel girdles roupd the earth's circumierenc2u
