AUCKLAND NOTES.

[FROM OTJB CORRKSPONDNET. ] October 22 Chicago's win in the Caulfleld Cup was a good one for the local books. The best backed horses were Spade Guinea, Plutarch, Bravo, and The Charmer. I may mention there were half-a-dozen straight out books on the event, and " if not laid" £500 could have been obtained about any t>f the' candidates. Most of the betting though was in small lines. Looking over the nominations for the Auckland Guineas run on the first day of the forthcoming A.R.C. spring meeting, it gives promise of a field of eight or ten starters; three will come from Forest King. Raglan, Tartar, Rataplan, Hotchkias, Braemar, Patchwork, Teksum, Hilda, Puschka. Muskerine, and Hume; the latter is a daughter of Cap-a-pie and Raupo(dam of Mata), and is being trained with Brigadier and Sirloin on a private track. From all accounts Forest King is doing well in the Waikato. The following foalings have taken place at Sylvia Park : Wood Nymph, a filly to Sword Dance; Atlanta, a colt to St. Leger; Lady Hately, a filly to St. Leger; Eryeina (dam of Mitrailleuse), a filly to Nordenfeldt; Necklace, a colt to Swor Dance; Mersey Carbine's dam), a filly to Sword Dance; Sister Agnes, a colt to Nordenfeldt; Lure (dam of Wbakawai), a colt to Nordenfeldt ; Radiance, a filly to Nordenfeldt ; Pungawerewere, a colt to Nordenfeldt; Cantiniere (by Musket) a colt to St. Leger ; while the Company's recent purchase Aconite has produced a colt to Daniel O'Rorke. Necklace goes to St. Leger thus season. Mr J. Hand's Starlight (by LeoUnus—Moonlight) has dropped a colt to Foul Shot and will this season be put to The Dauphin. The annual meeting of Tattersall's Club was held on Thursday night last; the chair was occupied by Mr W. Percival. Mr W. Robinson, the Secretary, read the report and balance sheet, which shoved a credit balance at the bank of £43 11s 8d -which added to assets valued at £50 makes a total of £93 lls Bd. Ricochet, full sister to Mitrailleuse, Iβ in work again under R. Thorpe's care ; she missedlast season to King Cole but is to be served again by Billingsgate. Nelson is a regular attendant on the Elleralle track. He shows no sign of lamenes*fron» his work up to the present. Baliata was brought back by the Tarawera from Gisborne this afternoon; her trainer Wright and J. Enko were also passengers. It may be interesting to know ptjat we haveahalf-brother to Chicago, thuCaulfield Cup winner, in Auckland, this is WoolbroW, sired by Goldsbrough and who was bred by Mr Reynolds of New South Wales. Woolbroker 13 doing stqd datfea in an up-conntry district, and was brought down here from Sydney by Mr E. Perkins *nd along with him came Tim Wlnffler, FK&ilty <Tjrenton T s dam) Kenilworth and VQrteJt October 25. The price now obtainable here about Locbiel for the N.Z. Cup is 3to 1, Silvermark has been backed at Wotoll, and Chain Shot and Exchange at Bto I. For the Melbourne Cup 100 to Bis being accepted about Whakawai. It turns out that the Auckland Racing Club have not yet made definite arrangements with Mr Bloomfield to work the totalisator at the Club's meetings, owing to his refusing to sign certain rules that have been laid down in an agreement drawn up.
