HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
An ordinary meeting of the Christchurch Horticultural Society was held in the rooms of the A. and P. Association last night. The Hon. E. C. J. Stevens presided. He obtained leave of absence for part of the meeting, and Mr H. R. Webb was voted to the chair. There were present Messrs Anstey, Nairn, Appleby, Donald, Cant, Meares, Guntrip, Allen, Brooking Bennett, and JVfareh. The Treasurer reported a crediKßaijk balance of £37 9s 2<L Thirty-six new members were elected The judges were appointed for pot plants, cut blooms, and fruit and vegetables at the November Show, and Messrs Guntrip, Donald and Cant were made stewards. It was resolved to call for tenders for the erection of a tent and tables, and a Committee, consisting of the Secretary, Treasurer, and D. Nairn, were elected to carry out the other necessary arrangements connected with the November Show. The following exhibits were placed on the table:—From Mr Appleby Auriculas, Cyrtanthus mackeriL Camassia atrocaerulea, and Allium alba and Moly • from Mr Cant, a new chrysanthemum, Madame Augustine Ganthem, rose and flame colored, and bordered with white; from the Hon. E. C. J. Stevens, Exochorda beronica formosa, Scillas, dwarf perennial phlox and early sparaxis; from Miss Gordon, Narcissi corbularia conspicua (hoop petticoat), one of the dwarf growing Spanish varieties with golden yellow flowers, issuing frcm tufts of long green foliage, and very suitable for bedding, poeticuspoetarum, a pure white cup large and well expanded, centre a rich crimson color. , Mr A. M. Ollivier contributed a paper on the " Pceony," which was read by.the Secretary,
A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Ollivier, and the meeting dosed.
