PINE-APPLE LOO.
" Did you ever play pine-apple loo?" asks a correspondent of " Aulns" in the Australasian. " I was introduced to the game for the first time the other evening, at an enjoyably dinner, where the viands were good, the wine, especially some sparkling Moselle, beyond praise, and the speeches short. It is very simple. You each put so much in the pool. The chairman cuts the leafy crown from the pine and shows it to the company, each of whom writes down his estimate of the number of leaves upon it. The chairman solemnly plucks the leaves off one by one and counts them, and the person who guesses the number nearest to the reality wins. It was amusing to see how far apart the different guesses were, and still more amusing to mc to find, that, thanks to chances and the hints of an astute and kindly neighbour, I had ' scooped the pool. , I won't tell you the number. Try it yourself." I certainly shall, and hope that I will be as lucky as my correspondent.
