ELLESMERE A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.
A Committee meeting of the above Association was held in Spring's Hotel, Leeston, on Thursday last. Present— Messrs J. R. Campbell (President), R. A. Frankish, J. Barnett, W. Moorhead, H. Alington, T. W. Durant, F. Overton, W. R. Maddison, W. G. Lunn, Jas. Larubie, W. Gebbie, John McKellar, R. Lockhead, S. H. Lemon, John Boag, T. Tollerton, H. Hight, W. Bishop, G. Stephens, sen., J. Barnett, P. J. Henley, H. Hight, T. B. Howson, and F. Jameson. A letter was read from Mr R. B. Willis, enclosing rules from Royal Society, England, and offering suggestions as to the Association adopting a rule to prohibit exhibits that have taken two consecutive flret prizes from competing for the Society's prizes. After a long discussion, it was found that this rule could only be adopted at an annual general meeting. Mr Marshall gave a notice of motion, which was seconded by Mr Lunn —" That any exhibit obtaining three first prizes be debarred from competing for the Society's prizes. Mr Howson also gave notice ot motion—That an exhibit obtaining two consecutive prizes be debarred. Several new members were elected. The Secretary stated that under the new police regulations it *as necessary, if the Society needed police protection, to apply to the inspector for same, and also guarantee the man's pay—viz., 6s. On the motion of Mr J. Barnett, seconded by Mr Stephens, it was decided to engage the services of one constable. Mr J. Barnett proposed, and it was carried —*■ That no exhibition of boxing be allowed on the show grounds." The judges in different classes were duly nominated and elected, and the following gentlemen were elected class stewards: — Sheep, Messrs J. M. Furze, W. Withell, and H. Gardiner; cattle, Jas. Lambie, D. Scott, Tollerton and Howson; light horses, C. Frankish and W G. Lunn; draught horses, W. Holley, senr., W. R. Maddison and S. H. Lemon; pigs, W. Hibbard and R. Lockhead; implements, P. O'Boyle, J. Osborne and H. Hight; New Zealand manufactures, G. C. Wabj and M. Jones; dairy produce, H. Alington and Jas. Stackhouse ; dogs, E. T. Claridge; grain, L. H. Mathias. The Secretary read a list of special prizes promised to date. The meeting then went into Committee and allocated the special prizes, the amounts being fairly distributed in the different classes. With a view of encouraging exhibitors from a distance, it was moved by Mr W. Bishop and carried, that stock arriving by the morning train be admitted on the ground forty-five minutes after the arrival of the morning train. The meeting then adjourned.
