AMURI.
The ordinary meeting of the above Council was held at the office of the Council, Waiau, on Tuesday, 2nd October, 1888. Present — Messrs J. Macfarlane (Chairman), Wm. Atkinson, Thos. Chapman, D. D. Macfarlane, D. Rutherford, Wm. Thomson, and H. Wharton. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows:—From the Hurunui Rabbit Board, asking the Council to put a gang of I men on the road from Jollies Pass to Fowler's Woolshed Creek and beyond if necessary, and applying for a refund of £25 expended by tne Board last summer in improving the road beyond St. James. The overseer reported having inspected part of the road, and found it in a fairly passable state for waggon traffic. Resolved—"That the letter be deferred for future consideration." * From the Marine Department, Wellington, forwarding copy of the Fisheries. Bill, which was introduced into Parliament last session, and asking the Council to make any suggestions or remarks it may wish thereon, as it is proposed to introduce a similar Bill next session. Received. From Mr J. H. B. Oliver, asking to have his name put on the rate roll as owner of Town Section 2, Block VI., Waiau, con- | taining lr 8p; also Section 5, township of Rotherham.containinglr. To be written to and asked from whom he bought the said sections. From the Charitable Aid Board applying for the sum of £223 7s, being amount of contribution due by this Council for charitable aid purposes, for the financial year ending 31st. March, 1889. Received. Circular from the AuditorGeneral referring as to how County Council accounts should be kept in future. Received. . . . It was resolved that the Overseer be instructed to improve the bridle track opposite Hopefield with the gang when the work of repairing the Glynn Wye road is finished. 1 It was decided that if the £100 lately granted by the Government for repairing the Waiau-Kaikoura road is found not to be sufficient to complete the whole of the necessary work, that the Overseer be authorised to finish it with the gang whilst there. Proposed by Mr J. Macfarlane— " That an engineer be employed, .to report upon the state of the Hurunui bridge with a view to repairs." , ■ . Seconded by Mr Whartow, and carried unanimously. Resolved, on the motion of Mr J. Macfarlane, seconded by Mr Chapman— " That a rate of § of a penny in the £ be now made and levied upon all the rateable values of the rateable property within the Amuri County for the period commencing on the 16th day of June, 1888, and ending on the 15th day of June, 1889, such rate to become due and payable in one sura on the 16th day of October, 1888." Resolved—That this Council, hearing that the Hurunui Rabbit Board are erecting agate without their permission across the Waiau Rotherham road, and. that the posts as now erected aie too narrow to allow for ordinary traffic, refuse permission to erect such gate unless the Rabbit Board widen said gateway to 14ft, and keep a caretaker thereon, and a lamp burning from sunset to sunrise; also this Council would draw the attention of the Board to the Public Work 9 Act referring to the erection of gates on all public roads. The Overseer was instructed to reduce the labor gang to three or , four men, to be paid by the day and find themselves, as the Council intends to let by contract the bulk of the work. The Clerk was instructed to get 100 copies of by-laws relating to water-races printed. Accounts amounting to £4010s lid were passed for payment, and the Council adjourned.
