LYTTELTON.
Shortly after 5 o'clock on Saturday morning; the whistle on the Harbor Board tug boat was blown, followed by the discharge of the tug's gun at intervals —the alarm which was arranged to call out the Lyttelton Garrison Corps — fifteen minutes later there was a good muster. The orders to the officers commanding corps were as follows:-— The Navals to proceed to Ripa Island and the N Battery Artillery to go to the battery on the Sumner road" and man the guns there. The two companies inarched to their respective points, the Navals to the wharf ready for embarkation, and the N Battery to Sumner road, where they were dismissed. Very great credit is indeed due to the volunteers for their very creditable turn out, and it is a great pity that opportunity was not taken to pnt the men through some practical work. The following is the state of the parade :—Navals, 43 ; officers, Capt. Rose, Lieutenants Arnold and Joyce. N Battery Artillery &); officer, Lieutenant. Brice. Ambulance?" S; Staff-SurgSbn Lewis. The first man to arrive on the parade ground was Gleeson, of the N Battery Artillery.
