DRASTIC RETRENCHMENT.

DUNEDIN, September 17. The Tnapeka County Council are going in for drastic retrenchment. It was pointed out that at their present rate of progress, at the end of twelve months, their indebtedness would be close on £4000, therefore all expenditure possible most be stopped. Members resolved to reduce their own travelling expenses to the barest irmifrg, also that the office of chairman be honorary, and that his actual travelling expenses do not exceed .£SO a year.
The Qneen of Sweden has been ordered by her doctors to get up early, make her own bed, take care of her room, work rathe garden, and take long walks. Under tills regimen her health is said to be improving.
