[PXB PBKES ASSOCIATION^ Received September 17th, 1 p.m. Thtjssday Island, September 17. News from Japan and Eastarn Asia shows that by the eruption at Tofeomatsu 595 people were killed and fifty-four injured. A hundred and ninety-four houses were destroyed. A fire at Obana destroyed a thousand houses. An important discovery of coal has been made at Takeaga. A severe typhoon devastated Foochow on August 18th. There was great loss of Kre, and the damage to prtoperty was greater than in any hurricane since 1860.
