The Rev. P. S.taJlery has been appointed a Commissary of the Provincial Branch of tfce Franciscan Order for Australia, and sails for his new sphere of labor in October. JLOODS IK THE RHINE VALLEY. Amsterdam, September 14. The Rhine has overflowed the lower levels of the Rhine Valley, and great damage has been done by the floods. It is reported that a large number of lives has been lost. Received September 17th. 10.30 p.m. THE SAMOAN DIFFICULTY. London, September 16. The Times urges that England and America should make a combined appeal to Germany to restore the exTLing Itfalietoa to the Samoan throne on condition, if necessary, that German influence shall dominate in Samoa.
