DUNEDIN NOTES.
[from our correspondent.] Mrs Lyford, grandmother of the jockey Tom Lyford, died here on Saturday at the ripe old age of ninety years. Tbe old lacy was relict of the late Lawrence Lyford, of Wakapuaka, Nelson. At a meeting of the Tapanui Racing Club held on Friday , the motion of which Mr Simmonds had given notice, that the Club be wound up, came up for discussion; but it was not seconded and therefore fell through, not only that, but the Meeting passed a resolution to this effect that the proposal of Mr Simmonds was frivolous and vexatious. A rather curious idea this. It is a wonder they did not pursue it on the frivolous protest principle and fine the audacious Simmonds for bringing it forward. As a matter of fact the gentleman !n Question has some ground for dissatisfaction xvith the management of the Club. However, it seems' that the, body is to continue in existence, and possibly Mr Simmonds' motion will work some good. Two meetings will he held dvi ing the present season, one in October and another in March. Mr Dowse has been appointed handicapper.
