•- ■ During the past week there ia but little change to note in the import market, the trade having mostly contined their purchases to sorting up parcels for immediate requirements. Kerosene meets with considerable notice, and holders are firmer on account of the rise in America and advance in freights. Sugars are unaltered _; stocks of Mauritius are not heavy, and shipments by the Rio Loge should come to a good markec Auckland Company's No. I sells at from £27 10s; cut and crushed loaf are slow of sale. Golden syrup is in fair request at 21s. Japan dressed rice meets with regular trade sales at late quotations. China teas move off slowly, but as latest advices from Foo Chow report an advance in Congous, prices here of first steamers' teas will no doubt shortly harden. A few sales have passed of Indian and Ceylon teas. Candles meet with usual enquiry. Salmon sells at late rates. Sardines fetch from 9s 6d to lls for i's and 5s 6d to 6s for i'a, according to quality. Cream of tartar at Is Sid, carbonate of soda at from 13s, tartaric acid at 2s 3d, all sell in trade parcels only. Currants are firm at Lea and Perrius' aud Mellor's sauces meet with limited enquiry, as also does vinegar. The Norman McLeod has arrived from Sharpness with a cargo consisting chiefly of salt and other heavy freight lines. In building materials the yards report a quiet business. Fencing wire is dull of sale. The late fine weather has caused an increased demand for clover seeds of all descriptions. Bottled ale and stout of first brands, such as Reade's, Dog's Head, Porter's Bull Dog, Griffin's, &c, meet with ordinary sales only. In wines and spirits, limited trade sales only are passing.
