FACING THE POSITION.
[Bγ Tkxxorafb.] [FROM OCR CORRESPONDENT.] AUCKLAND, August 30. •the manager of the Auckland Boiler 4liHs advisee that flour has advanced in price by JR. per ton all round. During the season there has been more grain •ad general produce brought down the "Waikato line than during any previous ■eaaon. It is estimated that the total quantity carried by rail will be about double the record for the previous ■eaaon, and this must be regarded M a moat hopeful sign. It also i appear* that the Auckland railways | carried £2300 more and spent £2500 less than during the previous years. The increase In the produce of the country district* U attributed indirectly to depressed tittMMi, and this is borne out by the fact that while the quantity of produce carried bu increased so much the passenger traffic has actually decreased during the awne period. It » presumed that settlers are now boldly facing the altered condition -of Affairs, and that unnecessary expenditure Lβ Imilding, travelling, &c.» has been cut down, aod their whole energies put utta the *jU. The increased activity of the W&ikato farmers is doe in tome measure to th» growing demand for their wheat ■AO&s looal millers.
