At the Columbia Rink on Satnrdej night a mile race for Maori footballer* j took place. The event had evidently been talked o£ amongst the visitors to tht match in the afternoon, the attendant* being very large. A number of the local footballers were also present. In the first heat only three of the four competitor* put in an appearance, bat the skaters, whOi were evidently more used to football the» rollers, caused considerable .amusementby their struggles to keep their feet. War? brick (150 sec) was the winner. Titm Omin 67$ sec. The second heat, whici also produced a number of spills, was woo by Williams (65sec). Time, Omin 2se& Third heat, which was very.Well cotir i tested, resulted in a wiu.for,Gage (40eec), after a very close finish with the scratett man Ellison. Time, 4mln 47fysec. Intbt final heat Gage, who had to concede* HOsec to Warbrlck, made a great struml«i for victory, and was finally only Just: beaten by half a , lap by Warbrlck. The handicapping was thus proved to tie remarkably fair. The prize, a pair of Club skates, was presented to Mr Warbrkk, In the morninpr a practice for the children who will take part in the Amazon Mateli at the forthcoming children's carnival was held, and was largely attended. The rink will be open to-day at the usual f hours. (
