Hoatson was : -ef eree. The Canterbury men were clad as usual i a the familiar Red and Black hooped jerseys. The Natives wore Black jerseys, l vith'fern-leaf worked on the left breast. On 11 ling into the field the teams cheered < ach other, the Maoris finishing their j ound of three hurrahs with the war cry j < f the team. Looking at the men as they , a cood lined out, it was seen that the • J atives were much the heavier. They ; a veraged indeed nearly a stone more than f £ neir opponents.
