DETAILS OF THE CEIME. [press association* tei.esram.J GISBORNE, July 20. The Herald's Waiapu coiTe3pondent supplies the following further particulars of the Waiapu murder: —William Turei aged twenty-six, is possessed of moody and ungovernable temper, and has frequently ill-used his wife, besides having on several occasions threatened to kill her. His wife, Mary Turei, twenty-three years, was a tidy and industrious woman. The marriage was forced upon her, and before it she was inclined to another man. William in his fits of rage used to cast up thia former attachment, and on one occasion threw he r into the fire. A week ago William's father, because of his furious treatment, told his son he must leave the place, whereupon William threatened to kill him. On Friday last William and bis wife left their whare to go to a plantation, William carrying a child. Before leaving he loaded hi 9 gun. The woman seeing him asked what was he going to do, and lie replied to shoot pheasants. Later the reporb of a gun was heard, and on a search being made the body of the unfortunate woman was found in the scrub, her head being cleft in twain, one side being a mass of bruises and disfigurement and almost beaten to pulp, with burnt fragments of clothing about the neck. The murderer was tracked to the ranges, but nothing has been seen or heard of him since. The Maoris are collecting from all parts to Waiapu, and are very bitter against the murderer.
