[per press association.] Received July 20th, 1.40 p.m. London, July 17. Haddon Chambers' (Australian dramatist) new play, entitled "Captain Swift," is being played regularly at the Haymarket Theatre, and is pro nounced a success. The American rights of the play were sold for a large sum.
Received July 20th, 2.10 p.m. London, July 11. Lords Rosebery and Carnarvon' intend to ask Mr Goschen for an additional fund to meet the advances made by the Government of Victoria to Sir Geo. Verdon in connection with the Victorian Centennial Exhibition. Received July 21st. 11.30 a.m. London, July 18. A lady resident of Sydney has written to the authorities at Stornoway offering to establish a thousand families of crofters in New South Wales. The Agents-General are sanguine that the Trustees' Liability Bill will pass. The education and armoury exhibits for the Melbourne Exhibition are being shipped, and will arrive in Melbourne in October.
July 19. Sir Dillon Bell has accepted an extension of office as Agent-General for New Zealand.
The Trustees' Liability Bill has passed its second reading. The opposition of Mr Goscheu to the scheme was overcome by the pressure brought to bear by the Agents-General.
