MATCH-MAKERS' STRIKE. A TERRIBLE ASSERTION. [per press association.l Received July 20th, 11 p.m. London, July 19. A strike among girls employed in Bryant and May's match manufactory has ended by the employers agreeing to the girls' demands for higher wages.
Iα giving evidence to-day before a Select Committee of the House of Lords which is enquiring into the alleged "sweating system" being practised in the city, a witness declared that a thousand children were murdered annually for the sake of the insurances effected on their lives.
