GRAIN AND PRODUCE.
The aspect of this market is much the same as at date of our last report. The easier feeling for wheat continues, and holders are more anxious to mVve their stocks either by shipment on tiieir own account, or by selling outright. For oats the enquiry is not active, and holders show aD inclination to quit at a shade less than last week's quotations. However stocks are not considered heavy, and no material decline is looked for. Barley meets with slender enquiry, and sales are trivial. Trade in ryegrass aud cocksfoot during the week has been of little consequence. Of course spring sowing requirements have,' imparted more life into the market, but sales so far are unimportant. The scarcity of prime lines of cocksfoot is becoming more noticeable, but inferior qualities are largely held and command little attention. Potatoes are in strong favour, partly owing to the improved enquiry at Sydney, but mainly owing to the fact that traders .oversold themselves when prices were lower, and to meet their engagements they were compelled to submit to the demands of growers. The market contiuues firm, but buyers are not so anxious as they were, having doubtless obtained their pressing requirements. There is only hand to mouth enquiry for peas and beans; stocks of the latter are being eased by shipment to London. Butter is scarce and firm at the undernoted quotations. Cheese is without alteration. The following are quotations of the day:— Wheat—Prime milling .. 2s6dto2s9d Chick wheat .. 18 10d to2a2d Oats—Milling Is lid Stout short feed .. Conx Exchange report for week ending Friday, 20th July:—Shipmeuts are being slowly made to the London market, but the scarcity of tonnage makes but slight impression on our stocks now in store. Freights are well maintained, both English and Intercolonial being eagerly competed for; the weather has been all that conld be desired for seed planting, which is receiving the best attention at the bauds of our farmers.
Wheat —All parcels coming forward by rail are well competed for, especially Tuscan, which now commands up to 2s Old for prime parcels for shipment. Pearl has a good local enquiry among millers, up to 2s Oii; Hunter's is aiso in good request, at 2s 7Ad to 2s Sd ; whole chicken wheat shows an advance ; we now quote it 2s ad; broken varies from Is lid to 2s 2d, according to quality.
Oats—A firmer tone prevails; milling commands up to 2s ; short bright feed, Is 10d to Is lid ; and long descriptions, from Is Sd to Is 9d.
Barley—This market is very quiet, and we do not anticipate any improvement until spring time, when the malt commences to move off. We repeat our last week's.
Peas and Beans are without alteration in values.
Grass Seeds—A local demand is springing up, several sales have been made at 2.s ifci to os for prime machine dressed, and 2s to -2s 6d for farmers' parcels, cocksfoot prime is worth ojd, second quality 2.U1 to 3d.
Potatoes —Sales are bring made at £2 at country stations, for parcels where can be arranged to suit steamers.
Dairy Produce—Advices from Sydney have been against holders, and a reaction has set in both as regards butter and cheese, the former is quiet at fcSd to Ud, cheese at 3d to 3jd according to size aud quality. The above prices are those paid to farmers for delivery f.0.b., .sacks extra.
