TWENTY-FIRST ANNUAL SHOW. Patron. Mr Geo. Gonld; President. Mr K. Sir—age: Hon. Treasurer, Mr R. E. _[. —vans; Secretary, Mr Thomas Turner. The twenty-first annual show of the above opened yesterday afternoon at the Oddfellows' Hall. The number of entries in all the classes was large. The arrangements were, as usual, very good intieed, and the Secretary, Sir T. Turner, and the members or the Committee worked zealously to promote the success of the show. In the class for Mack-breasted red game, Messrs F. Rogan and Co., of Wellington, were first with an excellent bird, Mr L'acre, who- came second, having also a very good exhibit. In that lor brownbreaste'.d i ed game cock, tbe lexjal bird that was exhibited by -Mr Clarke was first. He is a hue bi.-d, being well colored and a good all-round bird. In duck-wing game, the competition was small, the first prize falling to Mr F. Dacre. In pile game, Messrs Rogan and Co., of Wellington, wore first in a small class. For blackbreasted red game hen, Messrs Leversedge Bros, were first with a nice bird ; that exhibited by Mr Markham, wliich took third prize, was also worthy. The class for brown-breasteel or finger-red was small, and does not call for~special mention. In that for duckwing game hen, Messrs Leversedge Bros., of Papanui, were first with a good bird ; Mr F. Dacre's exhibit, which was placed second, was also a very nice bird. Iv the class for pile same hen Mr .James Ford was first; Mr Richard Long, who had a "highly commended" ticket, sending a very good bird. In the cla.«:s for black-breasted game cock undubbed there »vcre only two entries, and only a second prize awarded. In the class for duckwing game cock Mr Dacre took first prixe. Leversedge Bros, were first iv the next class, for black breasted red game hen, and they were also successful in that for duckwing game hen. In any other variety of game cock, under twelve months, Mr C. E. Fisher was first witli a Malay, aud Mr J. Ford equal first with n pile. In the class for any variety game hen, Mr Markham was first. Iv the class for silver grey Djrking hens there was only one entry, to which a third prize was awarded. In the class for silver grey Dorking cock, Messrs Rogan and Co. took a second prize, owing to the want of competition and special prize in the silver grey and colored classes. Under twelve months, in the class for silver grey Dorking hens, there was only one exhibit. No prize was awarded, the exhibit being ba.lly colored in the feci. For the colored Dorking cock, Mr John Short took first prize and special prize, the Gould Champion Trophy, for the best Dorkinsi cock in the show. The bird was a good all round one, being an immense weight. For colored Dorkins; hen, Mr S. C. Kest.even's exhibit stood out prominently from all the rest of the competitors, and was awarded first and special. The second prize taker, that of Mr Bruce, an imported bird, was a good second. The class as a whole was an excellent one. In class for colored Dorking cocks under twelve months old Mr Bashford seeureel the pride of place with a bird showing good frame and great weight. Mr It. T. Cooke was second with a remarkably good bird, showing Qne comb and feather. In the class tor colored Dorking hens the winner was easily found in Mr Short's pen, who took first and special prize ottered by Lightband, Allan and Co. This was a good beu, showing a great deal of quality. The white Dorking classes were remarked upon by the judges as being shown in a very dirty condition, and consequently no first prize was awarded. The second prize was taken by Mr Free. In the white Dorkings under twelve mouths the birds exhibited were much better than the older ones, Mr Free taking the first prize. The Spanish and Andalusians exhibited were fairly good. The Spauish classes were but poorly represented. Mr Beck took first and special for a goodpair. In the Andalusian class Mr G. F. Whiteside was first and special for best pair of adults. In that for those under twelve months Rev. L. M. Isitt was first. In the class for Hondans Mr Roger's handsome bird was awarded first and spe'ial. The same exhibitor also scored a win in the hen class, taking first and special for best hen in the show. In the class for under twelve months Mr li. Patersou scored a victory with a good hen. In the Cochin classes there was fair competition. Messrs li/gan and Co. took first prize and special for best Cochin cock in the Show with a very fine bird. The same, exhibitor took first prize in the class for under twelve months. They also took first in the class for Cochin hen, and first and special for best Cochin hen in the Show. The Brahmas were well represented as a whole, though Messrs Rogan and Co. had the dark class pretty well all to themselves. They had a grand bird, which took first and special for the best dark Brahma in the show. In the light classes also Messrs Rogan aud Co. came well to the front with some very good birds. In the class for Plymouth rocks Mr R. Evans had a grand bird, which took the first and special in his class. The second prize was awarded to Rogan and Co., who had a good bird. In the class for hens Mr A. Johnstone was first with a very fair exhibit, Mr R. Evans coining second. For the class of cock under twelve months there was a very large entry, Mr G. Gonld taking first and Mrs Mather s special, this being the largest prize ever given under the auspices of the Society, viz., a ten-guinea cup. For the hens in this class there was also a large entry, Mr C. S. Howard carryingoll" first prize w.tharemarkably lines bird. In the golden-pencilled Hamlvtrgs Mr P. Peebles took first prize with a nice pair. The class was a small one as regards number, but the birds were good in quality. In the silver-pencilled Mr L. Wilson took the first and special. In those uuiler twelve months, the same exhibitor again scored first. In tiie golden .spiug'ed Mr G. Rollinson was first and second, and in the class for under twelve months Mr O. Bratlley te>ok fi»*st and special, the second prize pen exhibited by Mr Rollinson being v«?ry good birds. In the silver spangled Hamburghs there was only one entry, Mr A. Peacock taking second prize. In the class under twelve months, Mr E. Gunter took first and second. For the black Hamburghs, MrG. ■ Rollinson was tirst and second. Messrs F. Rogau were the only exhibitors in silver Polish, ami they took first and special with a good pen. In the white Lezhorns Mr X. (J. Robertson took iir»t anil speci with a fine pair of birds which were iv excellent condition. The entries in the bantam classejs were not numerous, but the quality was gooel, Mr F. Daere having some good birds in the Langshans. Mr Brake had a very fine pen of geese—a goose and a gaiider— which was well worth looking at. The pigeons, which were exhibited in the. side room of the Hall, were exceedingly Rood in all the classes. The canaries also, as in former, years, were to the fore, and attracted as usual a large amount of attention. They were well staged, and so placed as to afford every opportunity for inspection by visitors. On the stage was a remarkably good cockatoo exliibited by Mr E. Green, which during the afternoon held quite a levee. His talking powers are remarkable, as also his powers of inimicrv of the cries of animals, &c. Mr .]. Stapleton exhibited a very clever king parrot.
