Tbe steamer San Pablo when stranded in tbe Straits o£ Formosa was attacked by Chinese pirates. The crew and passengers fought bravely, but were out numbered, __d but for a happy thought by the engineer, who turned boiling water on the buccaneers, they would have been overcome: as it was the steamer was abandoned, tbe crew and passengers escaping by boots to tbe mainland, taking with them the mails and specie.
