TEMUKA.

"Wednesday, January 25. (Before J. M. Ollivier, Esq., R.M., and D. Inwood, Esq. Maintenance Order — Henderson v. Henderson. Mr Wood appeared for plaintiff, and after a brief explanation applied for a remand for three months, which was granted. Idle and Disorderly—George Bamsay, who appeared to answer a charge of being an idle and disorderly person without lawful means of support, pleaded "not guilty." The evidence of Constable Morton, ■who arrested accused, was to the effect that Ramsay had done no work since last before the Court. He had been seeping in all sorts of places, and had been loafing about and making himself obnoxious to a number of people. He called A. R. Allen, storekeeper, Temuka, who stated that accused had behaved in a disorderly manner in his store during his (witness') absence. The defendant stated that he was in receipt of an income of about £2 per week, payable to him quarterly, from Melbourne, where he had property. He never had any evil intentions, and had not been turned out of any person'spremises as stated by the constable. His Worship said that although he could perfectly understand the desire of the police to get rid of accused, still the liberty of the subject must not be interfered with. Ramsay was not, on his own showing, a vagrant within the meaning of the Act. Constable Martin stated that he had not heard of the income before, and desired time to investigate. He wonld be glad if the case were remanded. After a few enquiries, His Worship ordered accused to be remanded without bail for one week. Civil Cases. —George Mason v James Cain, claim £3 3s 4d; judgment for amount claimed and costs. Aspinall v Eli Mitchell, claim 10s 6d, professional services; judgment for plaintiff with costs. A. R. Allen v Thomas Farrell, claim 18s 3d. The sum of 18s had been paid since the issue of the summons, and judgment was now given for the costs.
