MEAT PRESERVING INDUSTRY.
[press association telegram.] BLENHEIM, January 17. Our two meat preserving factories are busily at work. The Boga Company, paying .£4O per week in wages; tinned 50,000 rabbits last season, and expects to put through 20,000 sheep this season. A complete steam tinning plant has been ordered from America, and tbe company expect to be able to put through double the quantity next year. Most sheep, though prime quality merinos, would be quite unsaleable were it not- for the factory. Eight tons of green peas were preserved this season, and various fruits and vegetables. Altogether the list includes sixty-one articles preserved. At the Marlborough Meat Export Company's Works they are equally as busy, and hope to export largely this year.
