A WONDERFUL BICYCLE.
A number of gentlemen interested in $» adaptation of cycles, to military purposesassembled at Hanwell recently to witness some trials and with a bicycle which bad been constructed by Messrs Will—a_. and Co., of Hoiborn Viaduct." The bicycle, which in its general outward appearance resembles a machine of the familiar.Safety type, was put through a scries of tbe most extraordinary teats with a 'result which greatly astonished and amused tho onlookers. St#ting from the centre of the town, a man Tode the machine over half * mile or so of road to the bank of the ri«* Brent, where, dismounting, he proceeded to blow into a couple of small bag* attached to the handles. The inflation occupied about a minute, and then the rider thrown his bicyle into the water, dived after It, swam across, e&a landed on the other side. He then rode over three or four miles of very rough aw varied country, including ploughed field* and swampy meadows, and, having j*" crossed the river, regained HanweU W some very Tough lanes, lifting his ma£hki* over the closed gates. Altogether W covered a distance of about five miles, and his time was a little more than forty-one minutes. Subsequently a'few well-kno«*J cyclists who were among the visitors trie* the machine, and rode over tho most uneven ground, up and down short and Bharp hills, bricks, and other obstructions, in a manner that greatly surprised military men and others who were present.
