CANTERBURY WOOL SALES.

Messrs Matson and Co. report that J if facts ever spoke the truth, the wool sales of this last series have shown facts ( which should indelibly plaut wisdom m t tbe minds of the Canterbury wool growers. ; fpr what more do they want than a good , price for their labor and industry, such as . was given to them on Friday and Satur- j davlast? Those who had " good goods | to sell' found buyers, both local and Euro- j pean, engaged in competition with each j other. Our local woollens in trade met in . friendly antagonism with Bradford and ; other manufacturers, and the grower has : gone home to his folds with tbe satisfac- s tion that he has next season's labors backed ; by a local market, which should inspire him with a desire to feed his flocks,well, keep his wool clean, and that to those who know how to get up their clips, a recom- j pease awaits them in the shape of a good price, ready cash, and a finality of risk. Let onr farmers carefully analyse the figures obtained, and they will plainly see the reason why some got more than others. Our catalogue comprised 400 bales, the contraction of which was mainly due to the establishment of country sales, a feature in this country's wool history which, unselfishly speaking, is a mistake; for had our country friends joined in booming catalogues, even more buyers might have been present. There is no necessity to forward bulk, only samples. Bulk in cat—ogues is the desideratum to get competition, and so long as this distribution is allowed to maintain, our farmers, like the little pig swimming the stream, cut their own throats, ior our part, if the country agents join the city they will be welcomed as friends iv promoting a national cause; for why should not all sell atone centre.
