SYDENHAM.
The contest in this borough lay between Messrs Bowden and Laagdown, both members of the Borough Council. There was very little sfcir at the polling yestorday, though towards evening the voting became a little brisker than it had been in the earlier part of the day. At a fe"W minutes past seven o'clock Mr Allison, the Returning Officer, declared the number of votes to be— Wm. Langdown ... ... 309 N. K. Bowden ... ... 104 Majority for Langdown , ... 215 Mr Langdown briefly addressed! the few electors who were present. He thanked them allior the honor done him, amd especially his Committee and those friends who had placed their vehicles at; Jiis disposal, all the arrangements having been carried out in an admirable manaes , . He' alluded to some rumors affecting hist reputation which had been set about', saying that it would be his immediate business to clear himself in the eyes of tihe public and to punish his tradocers. A vote of thanks was passed to the Returning Officer, and the proceedings ended.
