ELLESMERE.

The monthly meeting of this Board was held on Wednesday, all the members being present. Correspondence was read : —From Mr H. J. Unvvin re water in his paddock at Killinchy. Mr J. Merton re drainage opposite his section. No. 10,053. It was intimated that this had received attention. From Mr E. Dobson, enclosing account for £11 5s 3d. From Captain Willis re culvert near Willis' corner. This was reported as having been attended to. From the same, calling attention to state of the road from Bishop scorncr to Leeston, more particularly opposite the cemetery. It was decided to attend to the matter. From Mr J. Boag, on the matter of the diversion of water on Stewart's • road, Brookside. Messrs Lockhead, Jones and Rennie were appointed to inspect and report. From Mr Wynn-WilUams, re Nicholson's case. From Mr Gettins, re repairs to bridge over the main drain. The matter was deferred till next meeting. It was resolved that, owing to the large quantity of water that finds its way into the various drains of theEllesmere district from the several water-races causing considerable damage to low-lying land notice should be given to the Selwyn County Council that this Board will hold the Council liable for any damage caused thcrebv, and that immediate steps should be taken by the Council to Erovide outlets for -water-races. Mr Geo. ooper applied for a new culvert on the Main road, at Dr. Christie's corner. The matter was deferred. Mr Philips waited on the Board stating that his drill had been broken while travelling over lumps of clay on the tramway, and claiming 30s for damage done. The matter was referred to Mr McLellan, the contractor. Messrs Holley, W. Marshall, and G. Cooper presented a petition from about fifteen ratepayers, complaining that there are two streams diverted into Collinson's Creek from McKinstry's corner and from H. Jeffrey's road. The Board decided to inspect the place during the present month. The Overseer's report was r<_d and considered. The paysheet, amounting to £05 10s, was passed for payment, and the Board adjourned. ....... ,
